Design and implementation of fault-tolerant and cost effective crossbar switches for multiprocessor - Computers and Digital Techniques, IEE Proceedings-
نویسنده
چکیده
Two general crossbar switch models are proposed: the modified one-sided crossbar switch and the ripple K one-sided crossbar switch. They both balance cost and reliability, where cost is expressed in terms of crosspoint count or area. The two-sided crossbar switch and the one-sided crossbar switch are two cases of these structures. These structures provide choices for compromising structures between the two-sided crossbar switch and the one-sided crossbar switch. The effective bandwidths of these four crossbar switches are simulated. Simulation with VHDL has been performed to verify the functionality of each crossbar system. Synthesis has also been conducted to evaluate delay and area for each crossbar design. Experimental results demonstrate that the two general models of crossbar switches are cost-effective in terms of reliability and crosspoint count (or area) without reducing their effective bandwidths. The work promotes the use of the crossbar switch as an interconnection network for multiprocessor systems to enhance system performance and reliability with low cost.

In the paper a systematic design methodology which maps a matrix arithmetic algorithm to a fault-tolerant array processor with different topologies and dimensions is presented. The design issues to be addressed in the method are: (a) how to derive a VLSI array with different topologies and dimensions from the algorithm; (b) how to distribute the data processing to the PES so that a faulty PE wi...

ÐA class of highly scalable interconnect topologies called the Scalable Optical Crossbar-Connected Interconnection Networks (SOCNs) is proposed. This proposed class of networks combines the use of tunable Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Lasers (VCSEL's), Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) and a scalable, hierarchical network architecture to implement large-scale optical crossbar based netw...
متن کاملTagged systolic arrays - Computers and Digital Techniques [see also IEE Proceedings-Computers and Digital Techniques], IEE
Design of systolic arrays from a set of non-linear and nonuniform recurrence equations is discussed. A systematic method for deriving a systolic design in such cases is presented. A novel architectural idea, termed a tagged systolic array (TSA), is introduced. The design methodology described broadens the class of algorithms amenable for tagged systolic array implementation. The methodology is ...
